Definition of Hydraulic Servo Valve







A servomechanism is a machine that is used to provide mechanical control of an object from a distance. The definition of a hydraulic servo valve is a machine that responds to an electrical signal that measures the flow of oil to control pressure, position, force, or velocity in another type of machine. Hydraulic servovalves usually do this through cylinders or pistons.Servo valves are available in three different stage designs: one-stage, two-stage, or three-stage. The first stage of all servo valves is the hydraulic amplifier. This stage is based off of one of four main designs.

A hydraulic servo valve can be broken down into three components as well: pilot stage, feedback mechanism, and the main stage. The pilot stage receives the command signal and gives it the hydraulic force it needs to move into the main stage. The feedback mechanism communicates the actual position to the pilot stage in two different ways. The main stage calculates the hydraulic flow and gives feedback to the main stage in one of two ways as well.
